Name: Sherri Lyneé Location: Dayton, OH Age: 38

Well, I’m Sherri, born and raised here in Dayton OH. I attended college at The Ohio State University, obtaining my Bachelor’s in Nursing. I’ve been an RN for 15 years and I am pursuing my doctorate as a Nurse Practitioner. I have one son, 16, who I’m super proud of. Fitness is a passion of mine and I enjoy being a fitspiration to those who see me as such.
What motivates you to work out and live a healthy lifestyle?
My motivation is my desire to look and feel good. I started my fitness journey about 5 years ago and at that time I decided I wanted to be healthy. I’ve always been small so I never struggled with being overweight; however, I wasn’t necessarily “in shape.” And I definitely wasn’t living a healthy lifestyle. So I decided to make a change. And once I started seeing results, and liking the way I felt and looked, it became a lifestyle for me.
What does your workout routine look like?
Well, I attend Sweatensity class faithfully every week, which gives me a high intensity workout 3 days/week. And I’m in the gym weight training 4-5 days/week. Since my focus right now is building my lower body, I train legs/glutes 3x/week, with one of those days strictly isolating glutes. And the other days I work upper body and core.
What do you eat in a typical day to stay in shape?
I incorporate a lot of clean carbs in my diet since I’m actually trying to gain weight. Other than that, lean protein, veggies, fruits, and plenty of water.
How do you maintain your hair while working out?
Oooh the struggle lol. I mostly try to keep a protective style. But when I don’t, I will wrap it to try and avoid it sweating out during the workout. And when all else fails...frequent trips to the hair shop 😅
What’s in your gym bag?
Oh boy, what’s not in there lol.I carry all my workout essentials...Workout gloves, Studio Beats, arm strap for my phone all of which I use during every workout. Other items are my resistance bands, squat sponge, Fit Chick back brace, and extra workout gear. I also keep my amino energy and protein because I’m always on the go.
How do you create the balance between being a mom & nurse, and making time for the gym?
It’s all about planning and keeping a schedule. I use Sunday’s to prepare for my week. I sit down and consider everything that I need to do and I use my planner to schedule out my days and prioritize tasks.
What might we catch you doing outside the gym?
If I’m not in the gym,I’m either working, running my non-profit nursing organization, or catching a flight!
Give your best 3 health tips that people can implement right now.
1.) Decide that you are ready to do this, and do it! It’s all about discipline and self-control.
2.) Remember that you are only trying to be better than who you were the day before. You are your only competition.
3.) Identify what your biggest challenge or barrier will be to living a healthy lifestyle and develop strategies to combat it before you start. This will save you a lot of frustration and greatly decrease the chances of you giving up!
