Our Dope Fit Chick of the week is Personal Trainer Olivia James! Read her interview and checkout what she eats in a typical day to stay in shape and what keeps her motivated.

What motivates you to work out and live a healthy lifestyle?

Understanding that God wakes me up everyday to be the best I can be, motivates me! The fact that my mom is still working, motivates me. I will provide for her and my whole family I am motivated by my future, it is so bright. I am motivated by how I feel and my results! I am driven by the results that are produced from my hard work. Overcoming personal challenges also motivate me. When I see that I am an inspiration to others, that motivates me.

What does your workout routine look like?

My typical workout routine involves HIIT (high intensity interval training) and stretching. I love to stretch and strengthen. They must go hand-in-hand.

What does your diet look like?

I eat a lot of kale! Lol! I love hot cereal for breakfast. My favorite is millet with blueberries and honey. My typical lunch is kale salad with pumpkin seeds, avocado, green olives, and light balsamic! Dinner is usually salmon or some type of lean protein, Japanese yams and a vegetable. I keep it pretty simple! For snacking, I love trail mix and turkey jerky. Popcorn is amazing too!

How do you maintain your natural hair while working out?

When it comes to hair maintenance, my Nike hat is my go to. I love to keep braids in because they are easy to manage. Occasionally, I'll wear rock a sew in, but it's not easy to wear while working out and I feel like my scalp can't breathe. I also like to just wear my natural puff. I don't like to feel contained or restricted while training.

What’s in your gym bag?

My gym bag is very light Lol! I walk in the gym with myself, my phone, a towel, and my wallet. I travel very light.

What else are you interested in outside of working out?

Outside of the gym, I'm usually brainstorming new ideas for my business, studying/reading anatomy books, praise and worship, or watching The Office.
