About Marie:

My name is Marie Jobarteh. I was born and raised in The Gambia, West Africa. It’s the smallest country in Africa, or maybe even the world. I’ve never been an athlete nor did I ever play any type of sports in my life. I have an eye condition call Keratoconus, a disease that can degrade vision to a level where one will experience difficulty leading a normal life. That’s one of the reasons why I started working out.

What motivates you to work out and live a healthy lifestyle?

My number one motivator is for my Sanity. And that is the honest truth. I was going through a really hard time in my life, finding out about my eye condition and my ex fiancé cheating on me with a baby on the way. Forgave hime and he still kept cheating. I started to stay sane and fight my anger, depression, insecurities.... Now it’s become for my SELF LOVE, and my power. For my independence and my happiness.

What does your workout routine look like?

My workout routine is usually 5-6 days a week. I do a system call the bro split Chest/Tri/shoulder Back/Bicep Leg(quard focus) Then repeat next leg day will be hamstrings and glute focused.

What do you eat in a typical day to stay in shape?

Protein // Veggies // carbs As of this week my means are simple

  • 1/2 cup oatmeal raw, cooled with 1tp of peanut 1tp of honey and 1 banana

  • 4oz Baked samon, with 1cup of cooked quinoa and mixed veggies

  • 4oz of chicken breast and 2cup broccoli

  • 1 scoop of protein.

How do you maintain your hair while working out?

I cut my hair short to make maintenance easy. I just started growing it back to get some braids(because I miss having hair and flippiit. Lol)

What's in your gym bag?

Jump Rope, Note book(my workouts plans), Water, Tripod Stand, BCAA, PROTEIN, POST WORKOUT, Hand Soap, Chapstick, Lotion and Deodorant

What might we catch you doing outside the gym?

Working, Reading, or Dancing to music. Nothing major. Homebody here.

What are your best 3 health tips people can implement right now?

  1. Watch what you eat. You are what you eat and it is the truth.

  2. Never sit in one spot for over an hour. Move around. Even at work, go get some water. Standup, do something. Move your body

  3. Drink your water, not flavored or coffee or juice, you can have those as well but drink WATER.
