Our Dope Fit Chick of the week is, Personal Trainer, Chilasa King. In this interview she shares what motivates her to workout and a few fitness tips!

What motivates you to work out and live a healthy lifestyle?

Initially my biggest motivation was to change how I looked and improve upon what I already had, but for the past 4-5 years my biggest motivation has been to see the capabilities of what my body can actually do. I figured this would have been the best approach for me because I knew that if I pushed my body to greater capabilities, the way I looked would automatically change so why not get more bang for your buck! lol

 

What does your workout routine look like?

I love the weights! Anything heavy lol I have periods of time when I am either bodybuilding or more functional training but for the most part I am usually lifting heavy within the movements of squat, bench, and deadlift.

 

What do you eat in a typical day to stay in shape?

I eat according to my goals at the time so if I am in need of gaining more size ill typically eat less throughout the day and rotate between rice, potatoes, red meat, avocados,  ice cream here and there plus lots of water! But when I want to lose some weight especially around my mid section I will begin to eat more frequently throughout the day while cutting back on a lot of sugar and incorporating more green vegetables, fish, lean chicken, and of course a lot of water!

 

How do you maintain your hair while working out?

Oh goodness this is the hardest part! Haha I usually wear my hair natural. I rarely straighten it because it just doesn’t go well with the gym and NY summers.

 

What’s in your gym bag?

When I'm not prepping for a competition I usually don’t carry a gym bag! But when its needed because my style of training has changed I typically keep bands, pre workout, wrist wraps, knee sleeves, and my belt.

 

What might we catch you doing outside the gym?

If I'm not training any of my clients, I am typically at home either eating, sleep, or on my email.  Here or there I might go to the movies and dinner, but I don’t go out for the most part! I love being home lol.
